2008 Gallery News

Mulcahy Modern artist Florencia Levy was awarded the top young artist painting prize from the National Museum of Fine Arts in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in September 2008. Florencia will also be showing a new video work this month in Buenos Aires and her video Local Tourism opens in London in October in a group exhibition. Florencia's solo exhibition in Dallas at CentralTrak opens in January.

Mulcahy Modern artist Charlie Morris' work is included in a group exhibition in Iceland on view through October 18th at Gallery i8. Charlie's work will also be on view in a group exhibition in Barcelona opening in November at Galeria Contrast.

The work of Mulcahy Modern artists Derrick Saunders and Jin-Ya Huang is currently on view in the exhibition A Place in the Painting Continuum along with artist Brian Fridge at the gallery at University of North Texas, curated by Tracee Robertson.

Mulcahy Modern artist Florencia Levy's work will be included in a group exhibition opening at the National Museum of Fine Arts in Buenos Aires on September 25th, 2008.

Current gallery curatorial projects include an exhibition of conflict photography co-curated with Charles Dee Mitchell and a solo exhibition of LeRoy Grannis' documentary photography of the American surf subculture of the 1960s and 1970s.

Mulcahy Modern artist Charlie Morris has been awarded a 2009 ArtPace residency.

Akintunde Akinleye of Lagos, Nigeria and Florencia Levy of Buenos Aires, Argentina will be among the first international artists at the Central Track residency program opening in April 2008.

Mulcahy Modern artist Heyd Fontenot's work will be included in the upcoming DMA Art Ball auction in May.

Congrats to gallery artists Charlie Morris and Margaret Meehan on their recent acceptance to residency programs in 2008: Charlie to Can Serrat in Barcelona, Spain and Margaret to the Bemis Center for Contemporary Art in Omaha, Nebraska.

Mulcahy Modern is pleased to announce the acquisition by the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth of a major work by artist Margaret Meehan.

Gallery artists in residencies: Heyd Fontenot recently returned from a 3 month residency at the Pouch Cove Foundation in Newfoundland, where he also had an exhibition in October. The artist was awarded the Dallas Museum of Art's Dozier Travel Grant this year, which he used to travel to Newfoundland. Gallery artists Celia Eberle and Mindy Kober also just completed residencies: Celia at the School of Visual Arts in New York and Mindy in Houston at Diverseworks.

Our last exhibition in our Bishop Arts District location Mulcahy Modern: 07 ended on June 1st. The gallery is currently closed for August and we are relocating to a new space scheduled to reopen in mid-fall season. During our gallery move we have other curatorial projects scheduled.

Gallery artist Heyd Fontenot has been awarded the Dozier Travel Grant for 2007 from the Dallas Museum of Art.

Introduction: 07 exhibition (February 2007 at Mulcahy Modern) artist Eric Zimmerman has also been awarded the Kimbrough Grant from the Dallas Museum of Art.

Our current exhibition Mulcahy Modern: 07, our annual group gallery exhibition, has opened. The reception will be held May Saturday, May 26th. This exhibition marks seven and half years in our current space and our anticipated move in the fall season to a new space. Come celebrate with us!

Margaret Meehan's work is included in Pretty Baby, curated by Andrea Karnes, at the Fort Worth Museum of Modern Art. The exhibition is on view through June.

Rosalyn Bodycomb's fourth solo exhibition at Mulcahy Modern opened Saturday, March 24th, with a reception for the artist from 6 to 8pm. Bodycomb was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship this month.
